RNS: Synectics’ S-Bahn project goes live

Thursday, 7 January 2021

Synectics plc (AIM: SNX), a leader in the design, integration and support of advanced security and surveillance systems, announces that it has successfully deployed the first phase of its pioneering operational management system for Deutsche Bahn’s S-Bahn operation in Berlin. The project utilises the latest developments in Synectics new Synergy hybrid cloud software platform and is now supporting live operations across an extensive urban transport network that incorporates trains, tracks and stations.

The initial implementation, which went live as scheduled on 1 January 2021, will continue to rollout over the next few months as the teams add functionality and refine the user experience. The project is part of a wider Deutsche Bahn commitment to revolutionise Berlin’s rail services and deliver an outstanding passenger experience. Teams based at S-Bahn’s operational headquarters are now using Synergy and its new mobile application to connect, respond, and collaborate with passengers and staff on-board trains and at stations.

Synergy’s new Workforce Management capability will further enhance operational efficiency and enable rapid, co-ordinated incident responses. When combined with the mobile application, S-Bahn will be able to extend bi-directional control room operations into the field, automating and managing field team task assignments in real time.

Henning Oelze, Project Manager for S-Bahn commented:“We selected Synectics as they shared our vision for the future of smart transport operations in a major European capital. The Synectics team worked through one of the most challenging years we have faced to deliver this ground-breaking project on time. They have worked in close partnership with the S-Bahn team, successfully navigating their way through the technical, logistical and cultural challenges of a major international project.”

Paul Webb, Chief Executive of Synectics, commented: “The S-Bahn project is strategically important to Synectics and the wider urban transport industry. Together we have created new possibilities for integrated command, control and communications across complex urban transport networks that are no longer confined to traditional control room operations.”
